NAMES PARTICIPATING IN THE LIGHT EVENT

People from all over Türkiye came to the district for the "Light Incident," an event held every year between March 21st and September 23rd, when day and night are equal, and which was included on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2015. The event began with a recitation from the Quran on a platform set up in the district square. A giant screen was set up in the square for citizens to watch the event. Guests watched with their naked eyes for five minutes as the event, reflected on the tomb illuminated by the first light of dawn at 6:19 a.m., was also attended by Governor Kemal Kızılkaya, AK Party Siirt Deputy Mervan Gül, Chief Public Prosecutor Yasin Coşkun, Tillo District Governor Tanju Çanakcıoğlu, Tillo Mayor İdham Aydın, Provincial Police Chief Necmettin Öztürk, and AK Party Provincial Chairman Bahri Caner Özturan.

Stating that he came to Siirt from Trabzon to watch the light event, Hasan Çiftçi (66) said, "Today, my wish to see the light event came true, I was happy. We watched it live. If God allows, I will come to Siirt again to watch this light event." Hüseyin Aydın (70), who attended the event with his family from Istanbul and stated that he was very impressed by the light event, said, "It is a very nice atmosphere, this is the first time we have come to watch this event. It is really a perfect event. We were very impressed, I hope I will come to this event when I have the opportunity."

WHAT IS THE LIGHT EVENT?

After the death of his teacher İsmail Fakirullah in the Tillo district of Siirt in 1734, His Holiness İbrahim Hakkı became deeply saddened. He asked, "What can I do with the sun that doesn't rise at my teacher's bedside?" and began a search for his teacher. He built a tomb with a tower on the side and a stone wall on a hill about 3 kilometers from Tillo. Every year, the first rays of the rising sun, filtering through the window in the middle of the wall, are reflected on the mirror in the tower, and then, by refraction, rise from the window into the tomb and from there to the bedside of İsmail Fakirullah's grave.

During the restoration in the 1960s, the window's location was changed, making the mechanism invisible. In 2011, scientists from various universities created a new window, allowing the event to be viewed again.
